Career Management Exclusively For Executives

Management Appraisal

Many EDI clients rely on our consultants to provide objective and independent assessment of key individuals and groups. The EDI management appraisal process evaluates leadership capabilities and guides organizations toward better decisions about executive deployment, promotion, and re-organization.  Beginning with the client’s statement of business goals and strategy, we make recommendations regarding selection, succession, and assignment

In situations of rapid growth, downsizing, retrenchment, corporate restructuring, and other large-scale transitions, adjustments to long-standing organizational routines and responsibilities are necessary. The appraisal process predicts how an individual will perform in the changed environment.

To conduct a successful management appraisal, The EDI consultant works with the client to plan and implement several steps in the process.

Competencies and Requirements

To begin with, we identify the competencies and requirements to be used as a framework for the appraisal. We work with existing leadership requirements and competency descriptions currently employed by the organization. In consultation with the client, we further develop, revise and supplement these competencies to fully and accurately depict the top priority categories for executive assessment in the new environment.

The Assessment Process

Next, we design the assessment process to meet the needs of each client organization.  This process is carefully tailored to the appraisal context, the organizational culture, and the scope and duration of the process.  This level of customization means that no two management appraisal processes are identical; however, several common approaches are utilized in many appraisals.

Self-assessment: The individual executive, works closely with an EDI consultant to evaluate his or her capabilities against each dimension of the competency framework.

Peer and Manager Assessment: We conduct a series of confidential interviews with the executive’s peers, subordinates, superiors, and selected significant observers, both inside and external to the organization (e.g., strategic partners and customers).

Consultant Assessment: We analyze the executive’s overall competence, qualifications, education, experience, background, and credentials, using the competency framework.  These results are integrated with the findings of the self and peer assessments and comprehensive recommendations developed.

Results and Recommendations

As a next step in the appraisal process, we report the results and make recommendations. Our consultants summarize results of the appraisal for each executive involved, presenting the assessment in the context of the competency framework. Depending on the client’s needs, we make recommendations regarding promotion, retention, succession, and continued development requirements.

Implementation

EDI consultants continue to be engaged through the implementation of the recommendations.  We collaborate with the senior management team to plan the implementation, and provide hands-on consulting support to the individual executives as the required changes are made.
